Hyatt has one of the best reward points programs on the market. They are one of the few chains that have not transitioned to a true dynamic reward pricing structure. This means you can still get some great deals when redeeming your points for a free night. I was able to grab a $400 CAD standard room with a king-size bed at Hyatt Regency Vancouver (a category 3 property) for just 9,000 points.
The Hyatt Regency line is designed for peace of mind and productivity. They cater to both people on vacation as well as business travelers. You can expect to find restaurants and spaces to work on-site. This is my review of the Hyatt Regency in Vancouver, Canada.

Location
The Hyatt Regency Vancouver is centrally located in downtown Vancouver. You can find luxury brand stores like Cartier and Prada only one block away. Right next door is the Burrard SkyTrain station for easy access to the rest of the city. If you are into cultural experiences, the Vancouver Art Gallery and Bill Reid Gallery of Northwest Coast Art are only a couple of blocks away. The hotel is in a fantastic location for both business and leisure travelers.
Parking is on the pricey side, the cost was $40 CAD for a single night. The parking is shared with the Royal Centre Mall. You register your car by giving Hyatt your license plate upon check-in.
One drawback of its central downtown location is that I heard a ton of sirens throughout the night. There were a couple of times I heard the horns of large trucks that almost sounded like the horns of cruise ships. This isn’t something the hotel can do much about. My only recommendation would be to see if you can get a northeast-facing room. Out of the two times I stayed there, the room facing the harbor was much quieter.
Room
The “1 King Bed” at the Hyatt Regency Vancouver is a 380-square-foot room with various amenities. The room I got had a fantastic view of the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver from the 17th floor. The room was quite clean with a good set of amenities. You are provided a set of robes in the coat closet. They also provided an umbrella, which is a nice touch for rainy Vancouver. An extra thick blanket and pillow were also stashed away in the closet for your use.
The bed in the room was a king-sized foam mattress. The mattress sank in a little too much for my liking. My back felt like it had little support throughout the night. The pillows were very shallow and sunk in way too much. Even with two pillows stacked, my neck had little to no support.
The room also comes with a few other amenities like a mini fridge, safe, lounge chair, and office desk. The office desk is spacious and has an ethernet wire so you can have a wired internet connection. The wifi connection was good. I got 3 out of 4 bars from within the bedroom. The internet speeds were pretty good as well. I got 112 Mbps downloads and 119 Mbps uploads.
The TV has built-in Chromecast functionality that allowed you to use your own phone to cast Netflix or other streaming services you may have. More and more hotels seem to be offering this option and I love it. Scrolling through live TV or paying for on-demand has never been an activity I enjoyed. I much rather continue watching whatever show I already started at home.
The bathroom has a shower/tub combo with good water pressure. The bar soap, body wash, shampoo, lotion, and shampoo provided are from Pharmacopia, a line of natural body care products from California. Other toiletries that were provided included cotton swabs, cotton balls, and a shower cap.
Food
If you are looking for breakfast and/or coffee (breakfast is not included in your room charge), the hotel has a Starbucks in its lobby. If Starbucks isn’t your thing, there is also a Tim Hortons right across from the lobby that is open 24/7. On the second floor, there is also a restaurant called Mosaic Grille & Bar that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I did not eat there so I can’t comment on the quality of their food. There are also plenty of great restaurant options nearby (e.g. a 24-hour bakery called Breka Bakery & Cafe) that make it a little silly to eat at the hotel. If you don’t mind a bit of walking (20 minutes), the West End also has tons of great options for food.
If you are looking for some drinks, the hotel also has a bar on the first floor called Grain Tasting Bar. This is a great place to try out some PNW wines and beer.
Service
The staff at the Hyatt Regency Vancouver were very friendly. I was able to secure upgrades (high-floor rooms) every time due to my Discoverist status.
One of the best things I love about Hyatt is the ability to request room service through their app. During my stay, I requested a pair of slippers. They were promptly delivered to my room in less than 5 minutes after I clicked a button in the app. Bravo, Hyatt. Bravo 👏🏻
Facilities
The hotel has a 24-hour gym. The gym is quite small and only has a few exercise machines. Connected to the gym are an outdoor heated pool and hot tub. This is an odd choice given Vancouver’s rainy weather. It would have been better to have the pool indoors. The rain did not stop the guests from jumping in during my stay though.
Overall Impression
The Hyatt Regency Vancouver is a great hotel for first-time visitors. The location is convenient especially if you don’t plan on renting a car. There are plenty of food options nearby and the hotel has great service. I think both business travelers and leisure travelers will enjoy staying at this hotel. I recommend anyone visiting Vancouver BC to check out the Hyatt Regency Vancouver.
