World of Hyatt is implementing changes to the hotel categories for 183 properties within their program, with 137 hotels moving up in category and 46 moving down. For those unfamiliar, Hyatt employs a category system to determine the points required for a complimentary night in a standard room.
This adjustment may pose challenges for program members aiming to utilize their 1-4 category free night certificate. Notably, the Grand Hyatt Manchester in San Diego is shifting from category 4 to 5.
Effective March 26th, 2024, these modifications will come into force. Reservations made before this date will adhere to the previous free night award chart, while those made or modified on or after March 26th will follow the new chart. Existing reservations for nights on or after March 26th will receive a point difference refund if the hotel shifts to a lower category.

Seeing Hyatt make these changes is rather disappointing. Nonetheless, the World of Hyatt remains one of the most valuable hotel loyalty programs available. For those with plans to redeem their free night certificate this year, it’s advisable to secure bookings before the March 26th deadline to avoid potential complications.
